The best book I have read…lately? That is a difficult question. Here are a few that stand out… The Hidden Smile of God, by John Piper. This book is the second book in a series of brief biographies written by Piper. This volume covers John Bunyan, William Cowper and David Brainerd. They are accessible biographies that challenge your faith and remind you that we stand in a long line of faithful servants. I would encourage anyone to make biographies a regular part of their reading. “The God Who is There”, by D. A. Carson. I am pretty sure this is on Pastor Dave’s list as well so I will let him give more details. “Letters to a Student”, by Donald J. Drew. The subtitle to this book is “Staying close to Christ in the university years”. It is a series of letters from an older, wiser Christian to a young man as he walks through his first years of college. The letters are warm, encouraging and challenging. The book is a simple reminder of the impact a mature believer can have on a younger one and the need for cross-generational relationships in the church. My weekly reading has also included going through a number of commentaries on 1 Peter “The Chronicles of Narnia” – Well, not reading exactly but we have been listening to the books as recorded by Focus on the Family radio with the kids. We have found it to be a great way to make the time in the car productive. – Pastor Steve
