I have gone my entire life believing I was “dependable, persistent, loyal, patient and generous”, only to wake up one morning to discover my sign had changed and I am now “independent, enthusiastic and gracious” and evidently “moody”. A quick change in the year and without any notice I am told I have a new personality. I am no longer a “Taurus”, I am now an “Aries”. What if you actually put any stock in this? What if you had any measure of hope in this system? What if you woke up one morning to find out you were no longer compatible with your wife of twenty years? What about those kids that you planned to have at just the right time? What if you had consulted your daily horoscope for years to help determine a job you would take or investments you would make? What if, in any way, this was a foundation for any decision you ever made? I am reminded of the words from an old hymn:
“On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is shifting sand
All other ground is shifting sand”The change in the zodiac sign is just one example of the shaky foundations upon which the world rests her hopes. They are all just “shifting sand”. We can be grateful for the firm foundation upon which we stand. We rest on One who is the same “yesterday, today and forever”. Our hope is in the One in whom “there is no variation or shadow due to change”. We are “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief cornerstone”. We will never wake up one morning and discover that God has changed the rules. Our hope is built on the foundation of His unshakable Word and His unalterable character! – Pastor Steve
