Now is one of those seasons when it is front and center again. The doctrine is currently generating a good deal of activity in the Christian blogosphere, largely in anticipation of a forthcoming book that some predict will compromise–if not outright deny–the Scripture’s teaching on the matter. This is not theological hairsplitting. The doctrine of hell has enormous implications for such fundamental truths as the character of God, power of the Gospel, and authority of Scripture. Thinking Biblically about this difficult subject is crucial.
