I’ve been a Christian for almost forty years, and in Christian ministry for twenty-five. One of things that I am aware of now more than ever, is the need to know Scripture. I need to know it more broadly and more deeply; and I’m pretty confident that I am not the only one who has this awareness in their souls.
Recently, I read a blog post on The Gospel Coalition blog by Joe Carter called “How to Change Your Mind.” In it he outlines a simple plan for transforming our lives by a regular intake of the Scriptures. As I read, his plan resonated with my own experience. One of the most beneficial things I do in my preparation to teach, is simply reading and rereading the text in its context. Sometimes this means reading the entire book. This practice is not only helpful as I prepare to teach, but also in the feeding of my own soul.
So I would encourage you to read the article linked below, and perhaps make this a plan for your Scripture intake in the coming year.
