Scripture and the Worship Service

Scripture and the Worship Service

The Bible is central in our services at SGCC. We read from it together as a congregation–often as we stand in reverence. The songs we sing reflect its truth and frequently quote directly from its pages. The Elder prayer is often filled with Biblical language and sometimes adopts the flow of a specific passage. And of course our commitment to expository preaching means that the message each week is rooted in the Bible as we are presented with the author’s intended meaning in a given text and are challenged to appropriately apply it to our lives. These elements are so much a part of our worship services here that it may be surprising to learn that such an emphasis is becoming increasingly rare in our churches. Albert Mohler of Southern Baptist Theological  Seminary reposted an article this week that confronts us with this heartbreaking reality. To read the article, “Falling on Deaf Ears? Why So Many Churches Hear So Little Of The Bible,” click here. This article provides a sober reminder to pray that our nation’s churches return to the priority of Scripture. But it also gives reason to praise God for the ways his Word saturates our weekly worship services at SGCC. We are truly a blessed congregation. I’m looking forward to being in the Scriptures together with you on Sunday! Pastor Greg
