Jesus Loves Me This I Know, For the Bible Tells Me So

The Bible makes a lot of truth claims, such as the one from this children’s song, but also claims about the origins of the universe, and the end of time. It speaks of the nature of God, the nature of man, and a singular hope for all mankind in the God-man Jesus Christ. But, how do we know that any of these things are true? The reliability of the Bible has always been an important topic for Christians to wrestle with, and today is no different. Whether you’re in a conversation with someone of another faith tradition, or a skeptic who rejects the truth claims of Christianity, one central issue to which we always return is authority. What is the source of our authority? Is the Bible alone (“sola scriptura”) our source of authority? Are there other equally valid sources of authority? The blog post linked here by Greg Gilbert found at thegospelcoation.org is a bit lengthy, but worth the read. If you find it helpful, I’d encourage you to pick up Gilbert’s book Why Trust the Bible?
