Garrett grew up in San Gabriel Community Church where he learned about the faith. In his late teenage years, his love for the Lord was lukewarm or worse. At the age of 20, following several difficult experiences including the loss of his mother Judy to cancer, God did a work in him which caused him to start following Jesus with love and sincerity. The principal verse that Garrett attributes to his conversion is Luke 9:23 where Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
In 2013, Garrett became a full-time missionary to Italy where he served on a church planting team. There he met Lia, a missionary from Davenport, Iowa. They started dating after three years of being coworkers and got married in 2018. Last year, they welcomed their son, Daniel, to their family. In 2020, he and Lia returned to the U.S. to pursue further training in ministry and deeper connections with family and their sending churches. They plan on returning to Italy to continue their missionary work in a few years.
Presently, Garrett is studying at The Master’s Seminary and is receiving training through the pastoral ministry internship at SGCC. He has a B.S. in Nonprofit Management from City Vision University. Some of his favorite authors are John Frame, Vern S. Poythress, D.A. Carson, and G.K. Beale. He enjoys going on adventures with his wife and just hanging out with her. He also dabbles in languages (both human and computer) from time to time.
