In 1722, a man by the name of Jonathan Edwards sat down and in one sitting scribbled down what began as 21 “resolutions” in regards to his life and practice, specifically in relationship to God. He was 19 years old at the time. He went on to become one of, if not the most important American theologians that we’ve been blessed with. Despite his impact however, it’s still likely that many have never heard of him, he was alive after all, quite a long time ago. I write this article for 2 reasons then: First, to encourage you to acquaint yourselves with Edwards in some fashion, and secondly, to bring to your attention a conference for college and young adult aged folks, which was born in part from Edwards ambitious and bold resolutions. To get to know Edwards, I would start with his Resolutions, which you can view here from the Desiring God website. It’s an easy first step to getting to know Edwards. His passion and single minded drive to glorify God is at once encouraging and convicting. The conference I mentioned is called Resolved, of course… It’s put on by the College ministry at Grace Community Church and has been going on here in Southern California for several years now. We’ve attended as a College/Young Adult group for the last couple of years and it’s been an amazing blessing. The conference references Edwards and his passionate pursuit of God’s glory throughout each year and the speakers they bring in every year are top notch. Some of them have included: John MacArthur, John Piper, Al Mohler, C.J. Mahaney, Steve Lawson and others. This makes Resolved a top tier conference that happens to be in our back yard, which makes it much more affordable.
