Does the Bible speak to parenting?

Does the Bible speak to parenting?

“Of course it does!” would be the resounding response of course!  And yet it so easy to forget that the Bible isn’t just our owner’s manual for our lives, but for also for the loves of our children and how we raise them.  I’m only a recent parent and can’t number the times that an older parent has chided me, “Just wait, you can’t talk until you’ve had a teenager.”  Doubtless, those of you who have lived through that experience are seconding the statement.  I myself am looking forward to the years ahead, assuming the Lord gives them to us, to watch little Seamus grow up.  I mention all this because I have been reading a book on parenting, a very good one so far at that.  It has reminded me that it’s a very different thing to acknowledge that the Bible is sufficient for all things in godliness, including parenting and another to actually live it.  It’s called “Shepherding a Child’s Heart” by Tedd Tripp and you can check it out in our church library or purchase it here.  It’s a good reminder, saturated in Scripture, of a few simple truths that are easy to forget in relation to biblical parenting.  If you’re a parent, grandparent, soon to be a parent, or work with children of any age, I highly recommend you give it a read. ~ Geoff
