A shepherding tool of San Gabriel Community Church
Category: Prayer

We see the Apostle Paul boldly and unashamedly asking for prayer in his letters. Sometimes, his request is simple and straightforward:

“Brothers, pray for us.” (1 Thess 5:25 ESV)

Other times he gives specific requests and reasons for the intercession:

“ At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.” (Colossians 4:3–4 ESV)

“Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith.” (2 Thessalonians 3:1–2 ESV)

“ . . . praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.” (Ephesians 6:18–20 ESV)

And so it is appropriate to ask that the family at San Gabriel Community Church pray for her pastors. The following article gives four reasons why daily prayer for pastors is so crucial. May the Lord richly bless you as you engage in this labor of love.

I’m pretty sure the answer is yes! It is so easy to lose focus and find ourselves thinking about all sorts of things when we set out to pray. Rather than just feeling guilty about this–or giving up and assuming it’s inevitable–I’d encourage us with the following article. It provides some excellent ways to keep on track. The first suggestion alone is worth checking out the link.

I originally posted this back in January of 2014. In light of the recent undercover videos showing the heinous practices of Planned Parenthood, I thought it would be appropriate to repost it today. There is an unspeakably evil practice in our land, that has become viewed as the norm and unchangeable. As the people of God, we must pray and work for an end to this evil, and pray for God's mercy upon our country. --Pastor Dave

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created... Read More

It is written by Donald Whitney, author of Spiritual Disciplines For The Christian Life (an outstanding book we have used in our Bible Institute at SGCC).
